Wild Chokecherry Country
While out and about in the Drumheller area with my wife riding shotgun, I thought I would show her the abandoned Drumheller sub located in the coulee's leading to the ghost town of Wayne, where the Drumheller sub from Calgary connected up the the valley.
We soon got sidetracked by Chokecherry shrubs growing along the right-of way, with a huge crop of ripe berries blackening the shrubs. Not everyone has a fondness for chokecherries, but I do, maybe remembering the days of my youth when my grandmother had a chokecherry tree growing in her front yard.
Regardless, my wife was soon going about picking chokecherries to take home to make chokecherry jam with.
I shot this photo from the deck of a girder bridge spanning a creek on the abandoned CN Drumheller sub right-of way as my wife picks chokecherries in the distance.
