Rose From The Ashes
In May of 2017 the wooden McDougall Stoney Mission Church located near Morley AB on highway 1A was destroyed by fire.
Built in 1875 to "minister" to the Stoney First Nation by George and John McDougall, this mission church has stood for 142 years up until the 2017 fire destroyed it. This permanent Protestant church was the first built in southern Alberta.
With original timbers still standing after the fire, it was decided the church would be rebuilt to its original form.
Fast forward to Feb 2021 and what you see here is the church having been rebuilt to its original form, although work continues on the inside.
Over the years this mission church has been popular with photographers including myself, so I was pleased to once more get the chance to photograph this very historical mission church seen here on a blustery kind of day with blowing snow adding to the mix.
