Summerville
In the movie 'Ghostbusters Afterlife' the Drumheller watertower is seen with the name SUMMERVILLE prominently displayed on the watertower.
Summerville is the name of the fictitious small town located in Oklahoma where much of the movie happens, many of the buildings seen in the town of Summerville are located in Fort Macleod, Beiseker, Crossfield, and Drumheller,.
For 45 years Drumheller has been a favorite destination for my wife and I. Years ago we had friends that lived in Canmore AB, and once the mines in Canmore closed for good, Jo & Charlie moved back to their home in Midland, now part of Drumheller where we visited them many times.
Over the years we've visited the badlands that surround Drumheller, camping here and there, air-boating on the Red Deer river while fishing for Goldeye, exploring the badlands and more. Our first trip to DPP (Dinosaur Provincial Park) located northeast of Brooks AB more than 40 years ago was made after a visit with Jo & Charlie in Drumheller, then striking out with our truck & camper to the east when the road over to highway 36 beyond East Coulee was basically a cow-trail that had been bladed across the prairie.
The various communities spread throughout the Drumheller valley part of the coal mining industry that helped shape the valley many years ago are worth the visit. A fascinating look at the history of Drumheller and district can be found in the history book on Drumheller with hundreds of great black and white photos.
