Sacred Ground
While exploring in the Cypress Hills south of Elkwater Alberta some years ago, I came across this old grave site with an abandoned farmstead in the distance.
The day was overcast with light rain coming down, however it didn't take away from the beauty of this place.
I have since been back when the skies are clear, and the views to the south are stunning as the land sweeps away for a 100 kilometres or more, the Bears Paw Mountains and the Sweetgrass Hills located in Montana visible on the horizon.
The first time I visited this cemetery, there were very few traces of whom was buried there, Several years later when I re-visited, a chain link fence had been erected around the cemetery, and a cairn installed with the names of 27 souls whom reside within the cemetery marked on the cairn.
An inscription reads "Pioneer people and their families rest in peace, lest we forget"
