The Lonely Road
I'll bet that just a few others besides myself were the first to gain access to this recently completed road giving access to the Bow river at McKinnon Flats located in the river valley south of Langdon AB.
Other than the road building crew that have now moved on, the road is not accessible to vehicle traffic, as the winter-gate is now in place locking down the area until spring of 2021.
What was a winding and twisting switchback one lane road down to the river, is now a two lane road with only 3 corners in it easing the fears of the white-knuckle drivers pulling their boats down to the river.
True Story - One beautiful summer morning just after sunrise a few years back, I had pulled my truck over at a wide spot in the switchback. I was a short distance away with my camera when a vehicle with 3 fishermen pulling a fishing boat came along. I was walking up the road to my truck they had just passed, but pulled over beside me, the passengers window opening up.
The driver whom I believe was a fishing guide with two clients started giving me a speech about how I'd parked creating a problem for him to get by. I responded about how I had taken the time to pull over far enough for anyone coming along to get by, and besides I said that I had grown up on a grain farm where before I was sixteen years old I was driving tandem-axle grain trucks hauling 600 bushels of wheat, and as a sixteen year old I could have easily maneuvered that same loaded grain truck around my Avalanche. I could see the smirks on the two clients faces as the red-faced driver moved on without another word.
