The Ring-Necked Pheasant
Sunrise finds this Ring-Necked pheasant bordering the gravel road I was travelling down, where he was pecking at small stones for his crop to help with the digestion of the seeds he would have been eating.
Years ago while in my youth, I considered myself an upland gamebird hunter, and hunted many a wiley pheasant like this guy with my Stevens side by side twenty gauge shotgun. Today I prefer to hunt them with my camera.
The pheasant prefers to run on the ground in their escape, but will take to the sky if pushed hard enough.
