Trails Across The Prairies
Valleys and Ridges
Early morning finds me spending time exploring an area of the grasslands of southeastern AB, bordering the valley that the Bow flows through.
Beautiful morning to be out exploring the area, with a pair of red-tail hawks soaring overhead looking for their breakfast on the ground, on occasion being harassed by a pair of Ravens whom think its their territory, and wanted the hawks to move on.
Interestingly enough, although we think of Ravens as being residents of the forested areas of Alberta, I see a lot of Ravens out on the grasslands of eastern Alberta, where they can be found soaring on air-currents boiling over the upper valley slopes.
I also noticed a pair of Eastern Kingbirds that would fly a few meters at a time just in front of me as I walked along. Normally I am used to seeing them in the badland areas around Dinosaur Provincial Park bordering the Red Deer river north of Brooks, so I was pleasantly surprised to see this pair whom I suspected had a nest nearby.
All in all it was a fun morning out doing some stump shooting with my longbow, and all the while enjoying the goings on around me on the ground and in the skies.
