Trails Across The Prairies
The Workout
Yes I do shoot my bow while out roving through the grasslands of Southern AB!
In fact you could say I am making a visit to the gym, as drawing and shooting a bow not only puts tension on the upper body muscles, but it puts stress on upper chest, shoulders and back muscles. With the continuous repetition of shooting arrows, the increased tension on the upper body results in developing stronger upper body muscles, chest muscles and arm muscles.
It can also strengthen the non-core areas of the body such as rotator cuffs. Archery can also help in reducing belly fat due to the drawing of the bow to shoot the arrows.
I shoot my bow 3-4 times a week, and more often if possible, the results noticeable in how good I feel. Of course it goes without saying that tramping about the hills with my bow and arrow is certainly beneficial to my overall well being while enjoying beautiful surroundings not found at the gym, what's not to like.
