Trails Across The Prairies
Sopping Wet
My regular outings with my bow and arrow normally happen very early morning, and the grasslands are as a rule sopping wet with dew from the overnight.
Now I do own a pair of Mucks probably the ultimate in rubber boot type footwear, however there is nothing that beats a good pair of hiking boots while hiking in rugged terrain, as they give you the stability required making sure you don't turn an ankle, develop hot-spots or worse while hiking up and down hills whether it be in the mountains or the grasslands on this morning.
The boots pictured here are my second pair of Scarpa's made in Italy, that are second to none when it comes to hiking boots.
The first pair were retired some years ago due to my having wore out the lugs on the bottom. Although I could have had them resoled, I opted for a new pair that are also nearing their end for the same reasons.
To keep them waterproof, at least once a year I apply a waterproofing product made by Biwell a company located in Austria. Be aware that Biwell is a paste type product and will darken your boots, but being I'm not going to a fashion show, its as good as it gets for keeping your boots and feet dry.
The other thing required that I wear as seen in the photo are Gore-Tex gaiters that reach to the knee keeping my pant-legs dry. Not seen in the photo are knee-guards that I wear to protect my knees while kneeling, and of course they also keep my knees dry in wet grass or snow.
On this morning, I left my hybrid longbow behind, and I am carrying and using my Bear Montana longbow as seen in the photo.
