Wild Turkey Country
Beautiful morning finds me exploring the high ridges of the Porcupine Hills that overlook the front ranges of the southern AB Rockies, where I was stump shooting with my bow, and all the while I am on the lookout for wild turkeys that live in the hills.
For the record, wild turkeys are not native to Alberta, however wild-trapped and captive-reared wild turkeys were released several times in the Porcupine Hills from 1966-1975.
The first translocation of wild turkeys in Alberta occurred when turkeys originally released in the Cypress Hills from South Dakota, were captured in the Cypress Hills and released in the Porcupine Hills.
Over the years, I have seen and photographed wild turkeys in the Chain lakes area of the hills, north of my location in this photo.
