Trails Across The Prairies
It's A Buggy World
While out with my bow and arrow roving through the grass hills bordering the river valley that the Bow flows through, I'd released an arrow at this bush that was loaded with Blister bugs feeding on it when I walked up to retrieve my arrow.
Its not the first time I see blister Beetles, as they are a widespread species found throughout the grasslands of southern Alberta. The term blister beetle comes from the beetles cantharidin rich body fluid which causes blistering when it comes in contact with bare skin. so needless to say you want to refrain from picking them up for a closer look.
It's too bad I didn't have my DSLR and macro lens along for a higher magnification image, but you get the idea, very bright colorful bug that signifies the fact you don't want to pick one up.
