I'm finding out that the many visitors to my train gallery have a love of trains as I do.

Earlier Times
Recently while browsing in the book section at "Trains and Such" located here in Calgary, I spotted this new 2019 publication by Terry Gainer titled "When Trains Ruled the Rockies".
Terry's dad (Frank Gainer) worked for CP as a station agent, and took over this position at the Banff train station in 1948.
The Gainer family lived in the living quarters located in the train station, and Terry documents his time living there where he lived and breathed trains.
The book has a great selection of photographs, a lot of them shot by Nicholas Morant, that includes a self portrait of Nicholas Morant with his view cameras of the day shot in the 1950's, the Rockies as the background.
Many of the photographs are courtesy of the Whyte Museum located in Banff.
I enjoyed reading this book, and recommend it if you want to read about the Banff train station and the role it played in the local community.
There is a lot of interesting information about the golden age of railway travel in the mountains of western Canada.
