A Rare Bird
While in the vicinity of the Mazeppa Gas Plant located east of High River AB, checking out the train traffic on the Aldersyde sub, I thought that I would check on the status of the CLC (Canadian Locomotive Company) H-16-44, an ex-CP 8554 locomotive located there, built in 1955 and retired approximately twenty years later.
I understand that this is one of only three H-16-44s left, with the other two residing in Mexico. I would think that makes it very rare. The locomotive is located on a back track behind the gas plant, and is off limits, with security people making sure no one enters this defunct gas plant.
Fortunately the locomotive is visible from the backroad that gives access to the gas plant, although a long lens is required to frame the locomotive as seen here.
