Railfanning West Coast Style
Here is a photo shot by my daughter Jennifer whom resides in Vancouver out railfanning near the Second Narrows Bridge that crosses Burrard Inlet connecting Vancouver to the North Shore.
Just visible beyond this vehicle bridge is the CN Rail lift bridge. Although a bridgetender may activate the lift-section with cables and counterweights used to raise the span, unless moving a train across Burrard Inlet, the lift section is always in the up position to allow ships to go underneath. The bridge's south end connects directly to the Thornton Tunnel, which connects it to the main Canadian rail network. The lifted section is visible if you look close.
I have to think that I would have seen some of those grain hoppers in the photo as they departed the prairies loaded with grain headed for the coast.
