For three days I had been waiting patiently for a train to be assembled at the CN Logistics yard in Conrich, located on the northeast outskirts of Calgary, so that I could capture this image near Swalwell AB located 65 miles to the northeast, and just south of Three Hills AB.
Problem was that Canada Day (July 1st) got in the road, as CN gave everyone the weekend off!
So finally with everyone back to work, I stopped by the CN Logistics yard at 6:30am, and after confirming with what I was hearing on my scanner and visually that a train was being readied to go up to Edmonton via the Three Hills subdivision, I pointed my Avalanche north and headed on up the road ahead of the train.
Although I have passed by this trestle located between Acme and Carbon on the south side of highway 575 in the past, I refused to shoot a photo unless there was a train crossing over, and that never happens by accident as you know.
Once I arrived, and checked out various locations around the trestle to shoot the image from I desired, I selected this location, and shut my truck off to wait.
Within 30 minutes I picked up chatter on my scanner that the train was close, and minutes later I heard the whistle being blown at a level crossing located just west of the location of the trestle.
Soon there after lead locomotive CN 2311 followed by CN 2563 and CN 5425 with their string of cars measuring 2.14 kilometers in total length, crossed over on their way up to Three Hills.
Ten minutes later.....
