Trains and Such
This gallery has been one of my most successful to date for purchases of my photos.
Overpowering the Sun
After arriving at this rural crossing near mile 155 on the Brooks sub and noticing an unused switch stand in the ditch near the track, I spent some time wondering how I could include it in a shot of a passing train.
Problem was that with a normal exposure, the switch stand would have been underexposed, so an electronic strobe would be required to light up the switch stand.
Listening to my scanner and getting a heads up as to the next train coming along, I plunked myself down in the snow to steady my camera as the train approached with CP 8740 in the lead.
Checking on the photo I'd shot, I found it interesting that I had dialed in enough power on the strobe using high-speed sync to not only light up the switch stand, but also the surrounding snow, the stop sign and the crossbuck as well as the front of the locomotive!
Gotta love big power in the form of a strobe that can overpower the sun!
