Strangmuir
Early morning CP oil train passing by the Strangmuir siding located at mile 139 on the Brooks sub.
I first set eyes on this siding located at mile 139 on the Canadian Pacific Brooks sub some time ago. After wondering aroung the site with my camera, it was apparent that it was a very old siding.
I was intrigued enough to do some research on this siding and discouvered it actually carries the name "Strangmuir."
The sidding (Strangmuir) is named after Major-General T. Bland Strange and his daughter Murial, his daughter having died before she got to the ranch located in what is southern Alberta today, after immigrating from Scotland.
The ranch land was from the Bow River located to the south of this Strangmuir, all the way to Namaka just north of the siding.
At one time there was a section house located nearby, as well as a couple of elevators.
NOTE....Major-General T Bland Strange and Strangmuir have mentions in "The Last Spike" by Pierre Burton.
NOTE.....Some of the rails on the Strangmuir siding are Carnegie originating from the 1890’s.
(Andrew Carnegie the Scottish American inventor known for his method of cheaply and efficiently mass producing steel rail for the growing railroad industry)
