Deer In The Headlights
So although I'm heading down to the river breaks south of Langdon to tramp around in the hills with my bow, and while driving down range road 274 just after sunrise, on my scanner I hear a train cross through the detector at mile 163 on the Brooks sub at Wildrose.
I'm just approaching the level crossing on the 274, and decide to wait for the train. Sitting on the roof of my truck with my feet tangling off waiting for this grain train to arrive, I see three whitetail deer cross the track several hundred meters away from my location.
Soon the grain train with 8703 shows up, and wouldn't you know it, the deer decide they should cross back over the track right in front of the oncoming train.
The engineer is laying on the horn and flashing his lights to scare the deer off the track. Two deer make it out of harms way, and the third almost had a bad day with a near miss as seen in my photo.
