In The Shadows
One reason photographers like myself favor early mornings and late afternoons/evenings, is not just for the golden hour but for the low light angle and more dramatic shadows created.
Yes, you will find shadows at any time of the day, but their size and characteristics will vary with time of day and time of year.
Even train photography benefits from the magic hour just after sunrise and the long shadows created as on this morning, this stack train powering its way west on the Brooks sub near mile 157 just after sunrise.
