Trains and Such

Hazy Days of Summer
It certainly was on this morning, the skies on the hazy side, possibly due to the temperatures we are experiencing across southern AB. Regardless it was a pleasant morning to be out and about.
Earlier this morning as is typical on Sunday morning, I took a drive down to the Aylth yard to check out the goings on in the yard. With nothing happening in the yard, and then while driving on Ogden Road, I spotted this K&S unit train powering up as it got the light to head east on the Brooks sub. I thought there would be no problem getting ahead of the train, but I ran in to a major roadblock at Glenmore Trail, the road closed for paving.
Now having to back-track had me sweating bullets as to whether I could catch up to the train or not. I finally got on highway 22x headed east just as I heard on my scanner the train trip the detector at mile 163 putting it ahead of me. With a little luck I figured that I could catch it at Strangmuir siding mile 139.
Luck was on my side, as I could see the train crossing over highway 817 west of me as I crossed over the Brooks sub at Strangmuir siding. I drove the extra kilometer up to the vantage point where I wanted to shoot from with the lights of engine 8905 visible in my rearview mirror. Pulling up to a stop, and grabbing my camera, I sprinted across the road just in time to shoot these two photo's, one coming, one going of this K&S unit train eastbound on the Brooks sub at mile 139 with the lead engine 8905 followed by engine 7050, and 178 cars being pushed by engine 8132 the tail-end remote.
