This gallery has been one of my most successful to date for purchases of my photos.
The Blue Locomotive
How cool is this, a GMD SW1200RS diesel switcher locomotive switching grain cars at the LouisDreyfus grain terminal east of Calgary!
I'll have you know it wasn't easy to get photos of this very cool 1950's diesel switcher, as normally when not being operated, it spends its time in an engine house located beside the grain terminal.
Earlier in the morning while passing by the grain terminal, I could see it was at the head of a 25 grain car string, patiently waiting for each grain car to be filled, and then moving the string to position the next grain car in place to be filled.
Trouble was I couldn't get close enough to get a good photo, so I stopped at the office and asked about gaining access to the property to shoot photos of the EMD SW1200RS as pictured here.
Well long story short, they were not going to allow me to get any closer than the far south end of the property, and I had to remain in my truck.
Good enough, I had everything in regards to lens to give me the reach I needed, and the rest is history.
Mind you, I'm not giving up on gaining access to this locomotive come summer, and will return.
Just so you know, I have a passion for diesel switchers of this vintage, and I have several HO models of the prototype being operated on my DCC HO shelf switching layout.
