The Sanding Tower
I shot this photo in the CP Rail Kipp yard located just west of Coalhurst AB.
I found the sanding tower interesting, as I just finished building, painting, and installing one on my HO Industrial switching layout, era the 1950's.
Although the white color of this sanding tower is typical of the sanding towers that I see today, years ago when the steam locomotive was of king of the hill, sanding towers tended to be black in color.
After doing research as to the color that the sanding towers of the 50's would have been, I went with the color grimy black on my HO sanding tower as seen here...…
Beyond the color, I find that the sanding towers that I come across, don't seem to have changed much over the years, at least in appearance.
