What Is Potash
Seen here approaching mile 155 near Indus AB on the Brooks sub is one of the K&S potash unit trains consisting of 177 cars powered by a pair of CP locomotives up front and a mid-train remote transporting potash from a K&S potash mine in Saskatchewan to the handling and storage facility in Port Moody, B.C.
The product left the mine site in Saskatchewan and traveled 14 kilometers on rail line owned by and operated by K+S. It then travelsed over 30 km of rails completed by Canadian Pacific several years ago between the K+S line and CP’s main line at Belle Plaine, Sask before heading west to Alberta and the coast.
