Different Mortars - Different Scales
Its interesting when you place to very different mortars built to different scales from the full size mortars side by side.
The mortar on the left is modeled after the 13" Seacoast Mortar M1861 that stood 6 feet tall and weighed in at 17,000 pounds and was moved by railcar. The range of the mortar was 4200 yards when fired at a 45 degree angle of elevation with a 200 lb. shell.
The mortar on the right I just finished building, and it is modeled in 1/4 scale from the full size 24 PDR Coehorn Mortar M-1838 that was approximately 30" in height and weighed 300 pounds and was moved around the battlefield by 4 men (2 in a pinch), and had a maximum range of 1200 yards when fired at a fixed angle of 45 degrees with a 17 lb. shell.
