The Heavy Lift
With my vintage GE 45 ton switching locomotive needing the prime mover replaced, the easiest way to remove and replace it was to lift the complete cab assembly off of the chassis with the help of a mobile crane.
That called for the help of a Mammoet LTM 1250 All Terrain Crane that was more than up to the job.
This 5 axle crane with a lift capability of 300 tons, has a boom length of 197 ft when fully extended.
Of course the GE 45 Ton switcher being a 1:87 scale model, required that the job be done with a crane of the same scale, the Mammoet LTM 1250-5.1 All Terrain Crane is also in 1:87 scale.
