Old Tyme Depth Gauge
Being a Machinist, I have a machinist tool box full of measuring tools, typical of the measuring tools used in a machine shop around lathes, milling machines, etc.
Lately, I was browsing through one of my older machinist handbooks that I picked up at a old book store recently.
While turning the pages, I saw a picture of a machinist from days gone by, using a depth gauge that he would have possibly made for himself, and I immediately wanted one for myself.
So what do you do if you want one and you cannot buy one...you make one as shown here.
After I finished building the depth gauge, I also built the hardwood case shown, to store the depth gauge in.
I am pleased with how they turned out.
Just so you know...my depth gauge is sitting on my Starrett #129 bench block, useful for holding work when driving pins, drilling and so on.
Another Look...
