10-60 Meter Portable Antenna
You get a look at yours truly working on the 10-60 meter portable antenna, as featured on the 2018 June issue of QST.
It is an antenna that I had been wanting to build for some time.
At this point the coil assembly with the whip was completed.
Lots of lathe work required, with adapters to be turned and threaded in the lathe.
Because this is a portable antenna that will break down to multiple pieces for storing in a pack, its crucial that all threading is done in the lathe with a center mounted in the tail stock, to keep the threads in each adapter cut precisely, as you want the parts to be square to each other once the antenna is assembled in the field and standing up.
Precision work in the shop may not make the antenna work any better, but it will certainly make the antenna more pleasing to look at.
