New Old Lathe
New 30 year old lathe (2010)
You may have trouble believing this, but this Maximat Super 11 is not only 30 years old, but when I purchased it in 2010, it had never been used. I mean that it had never been turned on, and the oil that came with the lathe for the headstock, and the quick-change box, was still in the shipping bottles.
The original owner bought it in 1982, and it sat unused in his shop up until I purchased it from him. I had to spend several days getting everything loosened up, as 30 years of no usage, was not the best for it. Regardless, everything turned out fine, as I have been using it for some years now, and its proving to be a wonderful lathe.
The lathe came with all original Maximat accessories, in the form of a 3 jaw self centering chuck, 4 jaw self centering chuck, 4 jaw independent chuck, 3 jaw self centering tail stock chuck, live tailstock center, Rohm tailstock drill chuck, steady rest, follower rest, tool post grinder, and Valentine carbide insert toolholders.
I know the Super 11 will serve me well, as this lathe replaced a Maximat V10P by the same manufactuer, that I owned for 30 years, and it still had a lot of life left in it, when I sold it.
