6 Meter Halo Antenna Design
For some time I have been wanting to build a 6 meter Halo antenna for mobile use.
As you can see I finally went to work and made that happen.
The antenna mast is clamped horizontally in the vise in this photo for on going work, and I mention that to clarify the fact that this is a horizontally polarized antenna.
I will not be mounting it permanently on my mobile, but will have a mount allowing it be used for the times I wish to work 6 meters.
I also have a tripod mount that the mast and antenna will mount to allowing the assembly to stand on the ground if I wish to use it that way.
This design requires that the antenna be insulated from the mast, and I am using a section of Delrin that I machined in the lathe and then pressed it into to the end of the mast for a permanent assembly.
The antenna is not quite complete in this photo, as its missing the gamma arm for matching purposes, and I will replace the nuts and backing plates on the u-clamps with wing-nuts and a solid backing plate for quick assembly and disassembly allowing the antenna to be stored in the cargo bay of my mobile.
I also am adding a support system made from 2 small diameter 3' fiberglass rods that fasten the loop to the mast.

Here is the finished 6 Meter Halo.....
