Quorn Tool and Cutter Grinder
Originally designed by the late Professor D Chaddock in England, this is a extremely versatile tool to have in a home machine shop I acquired the casting set from another fellow modeler, who had aquired the castings from a previous owner. Neither one of them had made an effort to complete this tool & cutter grinder. I spent one winter working on it, and if you are familiar with the Quorn, you will spot changes that I made, including with the original thread that was required to be cut in the column for height adjustments of the main head. I went with a seperate adjusting screw with a acme thread cut in it. Another change made from the original drawings, is the tool holder. I machined the tool holder to accept South Bend collets, and this has proven to work very well. I also machined the drive pulleys on the drive motor and the head to accept a cogged-drive-belt. Some of the operations which can be completed successfully are as follows:-Sharpening End Mills and Slot Drills, Sharpening Side and Face Cutters, Sharpening. Dovetail and Angle Cutters, Sharpening Ball Nose cutters inc. Radius, Corner Radiussing Cutters, Threadgrinding, Saw Gulleting, Sharpening Taps and Dies, Sharpening Drills, Reamers and Lathe tools, and the list goes on. I have a wide selection of accessories built for this tool and cutter grinder, which includes a large selection of grinding stones that have all been mounted on their own arbors and have been trued with a diamond dressing tool, therefore no adjustments are required, when swapping out grinding stones.
