VE6AB Antenna Werks
6 Meter DXing Halo
Its been an interesting time while I perform various tests with the 6 meter horizontal loop mounted on my mobile.
For one thing, I changed the orientation of the antenna.
It originally was mounted with the loop positioned a 180 degrees from its position as seen here, and looking forward over the cargo bay.
With it positioned as seen here, it rides much better going down the road, and more importantly, with my antenna analyzer connected to the antenna, and taking a look at the RF Network of the antenna, the antenna has improved in all areas now that it is not seeing my mobile to the extent it was in its original mounting position.
It proves once more that you can build the best antenna going, but the installing and mounting of it on your mobile should be well thought out, or your high performance antenna becomes just an average antenna.
In other words, its like owing a 10,000 dollar radio and connecting the radio to a 2 dollar antenna, you now have a 2 dollar radio.
The bottom line is that the antennas you mount on your mobile are everything.
So strive to own the best antennas you can afford or better yet.....build, and then mount them correctly, and you will be rewarded for a job well done with many contacts in the log.
