The Linear Satellites
In this photo, I am working one of the SSB linear transponder satellites that operates in mode V/U orbiting the earth.
I am using my 817 to uplink, and my receive radio is my Icom R20, a all mode communications receiver. The challenging part is the fact that the doppler is fast moving on SSB birds, and must be adjusted consently on the uplink radio, while your transmitting.
You are aware of the effect your having while adjusting for doppler, by the sound of your voice coming back at you on the downlink radio. It is required that everyone that is on the SSB birds is making doppler adjustments with the same method, so that you all can hear and understand one another while communicating through the SSB satellites.
The antenna I am using is a handheld Arrow.
I have changed how I use this portable system as described here.....
