VE6AB Antenna Werks
DF Tape Measure Yagi
The design of the WB2HOL 2m tape measure yagi has proven to be highly practical for foxhunts. The elements will withstand those reckless charges through the undergrowth in pursuit of the fox, they also make it easy to get the beam in and out of your vehicle with little risk of damaging either your mobile or the antenna. This antenna has a lot of other uses besides foxhunting also.
I took some liberties with the design, and I made changes that although won't make my antenna perform any better, astatically it is more pleasing to look at, as I did away with the gear clamps that held the elements in place in the original design. I also added support for the elements that keep them from moving about in the wind. I made several other modifications to the design as well.
After completing the antenna, and making the necessary adjustments, to make it resonant on the fox-hunt frequency of 146.565 Mhz, I then swept the complete 2 meter band with my antenna analyzer, and it proved to have good SWR across the band.
I then connected it to my Kenwood D72, and put it on the air, with favourable comments received from a couple of the hams that I spoke with.
I already have several modifications in mind, and either will make them to this antenna, or just make up another antenna instead.
