VE6AB Antenna Werks
RF Adapters
I assume that you carry a selection of RF adapters in your go-box, as I know that I could not be without the selection shown here.
All the handi-talki's in my HT arsenal vary as to the antenna connector up top. One HT may have an female SMA, and another may have a male SMA, and others have a BNC.
So my selection of RF adapters cover all the possible combinations of HT's and antennas, as I have a large selection of HT antennas that are shared amongst the HT's that I own.
Lately, I added another RF adapter to my selection, that being the tiny mini-mag-adapter that you see here in this photo.
There are times that I wished I could remove the antenna from my HT and place it elsewhere other than on the HT.
Well in my case it is my Baofeng UV-3R attached to my Mobilinkd TNC and paired with my smartphone running APRSdroid.
The only parts that were required to make this adapter was a SMA 90 degree adapter, a small magnet, and a tye-wrap.
Originally, the magnets that I found, had a plastic insert as part of the magnet that I tye-wraped the SMA adapter to. Wanting a lower profile, I removed the plastic insert and tye-wraped the SMA adaptor directly to the metal housing of the magnet.
This mini-mag-adapter may be used either way, as I found that when I had my antenna analyzer connected to either mini-mag-adapter, the tests results proving this mini-mag-adapter has a place in my bag-of-tricks.
Depending which way you tye-wrap the SMA adapter in place on the magnet, you can mount either male or female SMA HT antennas in place on this very versatile mini-mag HT antenna adapter.
.
The beauty of this mini-mag-adapter is the fact that you can make one up in minutes, and then you can use any one of your collection of rubber-duck antennas on it.
The only other thing required, is to make up a RG-58/RG-174 coax cable as seen in the photo following this one.
With the antenna back on your HT, this tiny adapter may be stored in the smallest space like your shirt pocket or in a pouch like I use to store my RF adapters in.
