VE6AB Antenna Werks
2 Meter Yagi - Assembly Required
Handheld 2 meter 3 element yagi ready to go into its storage bag.
Earlier I finished the final step in the construction of this antenna. I had the gamma match assembly to finish up as my last step, and it goes to show that if you do your homework when designing the antenna, you will be rewarded at the finish.
One of the final steps in the construction of this yagi was to solder in the ceramic disc capacitor that I selected with what I thought was the proper value for my antenna. I had decided that based on my calculations, I would use a 15pf 500V ceramic disc capacitor in the BNC housing, connecting the center conductor of the BNC to the gamma element.
I calculated that a spacing of 100mm between the housing for the BNC with included capacitor, and the outer gamma element support clamp would be a starting point for the proper SWR. Once I had assembled the antenna, and attached it to my antenna analyzer, I was pleased when upon sweeping the 2 meter band between 144mhz - 148 mhz to find that the SWR was no worse than 1.5 across that segment of the band, and as low as 1.1. You got to love it, when you are rewarded this way after all the work of building it.
