VE6AB Antenna Werks
CJU On Steroids
This tiny satellite working antenna is called a CJU that I built from an article in QST.
The antenna was meant to mount directly to your favorite HT, and the link below shows me using it in that capacity.
However in the photo above I have mounted it on a Advance Receiver Research preamp with a combined handle.
This allows me to work satellites like SO-50 closer to the horizon with the extra gain of the preamp.
The antenna may be still be de-coupled from the preamp and mounted directly to an HT if desired.
Of course you may mount the preamp to any of your favorite Satellite antennas, and I have placed this preamp on my arrow antenna with some double sided tape, with a 9 volt disposable battery to power the preamp, and although the gain will drop due to only 9 volts powering the preamp, the added gain to the arrow is substantial.
Be aware that I am using a receive only preamp connected to the downlink antenna when using an arrow, and I am not using a diplexer in line, but using two separate HT's allowing for full duplex operations.
