Vintage Lionel O Gauge Steam Locomotive
The photo finds me servicing a vintage Lionel O Gauge die-cast steam locomotive.
This model O gauge locomotive dates back to a time when Lionel trains ruled and were heavy die-cast metal construction with working headlights, motors, and metal gears, wheels and axles.
This particular Columbia type 2-4-2 locomotive no. 2034 was released in 1952. This engine was modified from the No. 1110, which also was available that year. Instead of using plastic gears with a two position control unit, Lionel used a metal engine with a three position control unit whose control lever points down on this engine.
The tender seen in the background is a No. 6066T that has scout trucks with a magnetic coupler.
This locomotive and tender were designed to run on o27 Gauge track, but will also run on O Gauge track.
My interest in Lional trains goes back to when I was about 5 years old, and my dad brought home a complete Lionel train set in both a steam locomotive as seen in the photo, and an early Lionel F unit diesel locomotive with working rail cars, some that functioned loading and unloading milk cans and cattle at a loading dock..
Today I model trains in HO scale, however I still get a kick out of running this Lionel steam locomotive that brings back memories when Lionel trains ruled.
