APRS In A Box
So what your seeing here is a complete bi-directional APRS messaging capable station in a box.
I had some extra parts laying around collecting dust, and I kept wondering what I could do with them.
Then I thought maybe with the right case, I could make up a compact APRS station that I could take anywhere.
I wanted it to be capable of sending commands to the OT3m mounted in my mobile, and part of my mobile weather station.
Off and on I kept looking for the right case, and I found the one you see here in the form of a hand-gun case from Wholesale sports.
The complete station is made up of a Byonics TT4 with the companion display, Byonics GPS5 receiver, compact Adesso PS2 keyboard, Baofeng UV-3R+, and a small 12 volt gel-cell for power.
I was very pleased with how it worked out, and not only can I make changes to my ROVER-15 via APRS messaging, but if I wish to get in to the network with this station, but cannot reach a Digipeater due to the limited power of the Baofeng UV-3R, its as simple as sending a message to my ROVER-15, commanding the digi on, and then my beacon is digipeated by my ROVER-15 mobile weather station.
