DMR Radio Ops
In this photo, I am holding a Kenwood model TK-D340 DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) handheld that was lent to me by Radioworld here in Calgary to evaluate.
Kenwood provided several of these DMR radios, and they will want feedback as to what I find with this radio as I run tests with it over the coming weeks.
Being I had been planning on purchasing a DMR radio, I am pleased to have the chance to evaluate this nicely built DMR radio from Kenwood, and its been a good experience so far connecting to DMR repeaters across North America, and talking with other hams running DMR radios.
Calgary has a DMR repeater that resides at the CARA site on Nose Hill, and I have been quite surprised as to the coverage this fine UHF DMR repeater is capable of providing.
The Kenwood TK-D340 provides 4 watts of power, and so far I have had good success being heard and connecting to the repeater.
It is very cool to keep the radio on scan, and to hear various stations across North America and beyond, with the capability of communicating with these over the horizon stations.
It's all about DMR and the Internet.
