Fresh Paint
Having just completed the assembly of this one bay engine house from a kit of parts that allowed for kit-bashing allowing it to fit my HO layout, I then needed to paint the completed structure.
The colors I chose were colors that I liked, and have no connection to any time period, although this engine house will become part of my 1950's industrial switching layout.
Although there are many types of paint a modeler can choose from for painting your models, I prefer acrylic paint over oil/enamel . If the finished model will be touched often, it should be painted with enamel/oil paint. Acrylic paint needs special sealers to allow for repeated handling, although on my train layout that seldom happens.
Drying time is important to me, and with oil paint taking longer to dry and the fact I like to move the painting along, I prefer acrylic paints as they are fast-drying,
Also when spray-painting with an air-brush, acrylic paint can be thinned with water making it a simple job to get the paint to flow through the air-brush properly for a professional finish. The air-brush is easily cleaned by running warm soapy water through the air-brush when cleaning it after your done painting.
Another reason why I like acrylic paint is the fact that acrylic paint can be removed from brushes and other surfaces with soap and water once the painting is complete.
On a final note, you may be asking what I'm painting in the photo, I am adding flat black to the roof vent grills. giving the appearance of exhaust soot from locomotives accumulating in the vents.
The original color of the plastic parts that made up this kit were blue and white.
