Clean Sweep
Something different than what I normally show you, however with an air-tight woodstove part of our house for the past 30 years, its important that the stove along with the chimney are kept in good condition and cleaned regularely. This is true for anyone that has a fireplace or wood stove in their home.
Before going into winter I had the chimney swept and the stove inspected. We also had a WETT (Wood Energy Technology Transfer) inspection done as well, a requirement if we would be placing our house on the market.
This airtight wood stove seen here draws air from outside of the house through the base where a vent runs through to the outside wall. You can see the damper control knob just below the door.
With all the cold weather we experienced in Calgary over Christmas, we were using the woodstove everyday. Interestingly the wood stove easily heats the house without the furnace ever coming on at temperatures outside in the -20C range.
Because the heat from a woodstove makes for very low humidity in the house, the kettle seen on the stove filled with water acts as a humidifier.
