NOTE....Steve Ford the editor of QST wrote an article in the 2013 September issue of QST that amongst other APRS information described, he describes my pairing of the Kenwood D72 with the Garmin Montana, and how they may be implemented for Public Service.
I have the necessary information to connect up the pair....send me a email if you require it.
------------------------------
Take a Kenwood HT and a Garmin Montana loaded with topo maps., a custom made data and power cable, connect them together, then place them in a radio chest harness, and its done.
The Montana proving to be compatible with my Kenwood TH-D72A, provides GPS location information for my transmitted APRS beacons, and it shows the received APRS information on the map. You can set it to navigate to any of the APRS stations shown on the screen.
Of course...all this is happening while I am operating as a pedestrian mobile, and both my Kenwood D72A, or my Garmin Montana, are located at my finger-tips, as they both are carried nicely in my radio chest harness.
