APRS Weather Watch
Sunrise finds me getting ready for another day of watching the weather in southern Alberta.
With tornados on everyone's mind, including the stormchasers having arrived in Alberta from as far away as Oklahoma, it was a given that mother nature was up to her old tricks.
In this photo I am using my very portable APRS man-pack to talk to my VE6AB-8 aprs weather station mounted in the cargo bay of my mobile.
Included with my APRS weather station, is an additional piece of gear made by Argent Cable, the OT3m that accepts APRS commands via any device capable of sending APRS messages such as my aprs man-pack pictured here.
The keyboard, part of this very compact bi-directional aprs messaging machine, makes this a easy task when it is required that I change some of the settings of the aprs weather station.
Normally I would connect to the weather station electronics module with my laptop, but the method I am using here on the back cargo bay cover of my mobile, is quicker when speed is of the essence.
Once I'm done, its as simple as closing the lid and hitting the road.
Of course it goes without saying that I can make changes by sending commands to my aprs weather station, via aprs messaging from anywhere that I can access a distant digipeater with this portable and very capable aprs station in-a-box.
