Lens Wars
The two lens seen here with the one on the right a 70-200mm L lens made by Canon, and the one on the left a Fujinon 55-200mm lens made by Fujifilm.
The Canon 70-200mm L lens I have owned close to 15 years, and it has proven to be a terrific lens, having been subjected to un-intentional abuse over that time, but it keeps on doing the work I demand of it.
Now the Canon lens is used with a DSLR that has a full-frame sensor, the end result being a body & lens combination that weighs on you after while.
Several years ago, I decided to purchase a new camera system to complement my existing Canon system, however with a somewhat more lightweight compact body & lens combination.
I settled on a Fujifilm mirrorless camera system that uses APS-C sensors, the sensor smaller than what resides in my Canon cameras.
Fujifilm cameras with a crop factor of 1.5 make the Fujinon 55-200mm lens seen on the left the equivalent of 75-305mm on a full frame camera like my Canon DSLR's.
The advantage for me is a very compact camera & lens combination that is very light to carry, and having the equivalent of 300mm on the long end a huge advantage for my use.
The Fujinon 55-200mm lens seen here has image-stabilization built in to the lens, giving you a 5 stop advantage. It may be disactivated when using a tripod with the built-in switch seen on the rear of the lens.
This lens like all my other Fujinon lens has an aperture selector ring built in to the rear of the lens, allowing for aperture selection on the lens like cameras of old, the way I prefer to use my cameras.
If the camera is placed in manual focus mode, the focusing ring on the lens gives a very good tactical feel while focusing. The zoom ring is also very smooth and quickly gets you from lock to lock in short order.
Of course it goes without saying that the images produced by this lens are beautiful due to superb aspherical glass elements that resides within.
Since acquiring the 55-200mm lens, and shooting moving targets hand-held, many of the photos shot at the equivalent of 300mm, the advantage of image-stabilization along with the dual linear focusing motors, is proving able to produce tack-sharp images. The 55-200mm lens body is built of metal as are my other Fujinon lens that ooze quality when handled.
The 55-200mm lens is provided with a lens hood as well.
