No Tuner Required
In this photo I just changed bands by moving the wander-lead to a different tap location on the coil of my 10/60 meter vertical pack antenna.
When I designed and built my 10 through 60 meter vertical, it was a requirement that the antenna would be resonant on all bands.
Although I have a LDG companion 20-1 tuner that bolts to the side of the 897, I wanted to keep the transceiver in as compact a form as possible, not wanting add any more weight than required to my pack while headed out to operate from a remote location in the backcountry.
It also allows this transceiver with its internal batteries to retain the minimalist form I desire in a portable ruggedized rig.
