VE6AB Portable Ops
Contact
This image finds me with my portable HF station set up and operating overlooking the Hump located in the southern Alberta Rockies.
Looking to the east, although somewhat hazy on this morning, the southern Alberta plains out to a 100 kilometers can be seen on a clear day.
The elevation where I left my mobile is 6600 feet above sea-level, and I am aproximitly at the 7200 foot level on this ridge.
If you look close you can see the Willow Creek road below me, the way that I accessed the summit of the Hump.
In this photo I have made contact, and I am working Dar W6IO in Shingleton California, and although conditions were not the best on the bands, I was being heard, that is what counted.
I had my FT-897D running on its internal battery pack, limiting the power out to 20 watts.
If I use a external power supply, the 897 can then be operated at 100 watts.
Of course someone will have to carry all that extra battery weight, and that wasn't about to happen on this day!
