VE6AB Portable Ops
Badlands Field Ops
Camp located in the badlands of southeastern Alberta.
Yes the manpack is anchored to the ground, a requirement in case the wind comes up.
With a 22' antenna up top its important to take the precaution of putting the anchors in place, especially if leaving the manpack set up as a portable station in camp.
That way, the manpack being used as a portable station can be left unattended while doing other things, or catching some sleep in the tent.
Also, with the photo expanded, you can see my pack-shovel (green storage bag) being used for leveling off the manpack, by positioning it under the lower foot of the pack.
This lower section of the framepack having been modified and made ridged, by building and installing the aluminum bracket visible on the right side of the frame assembly.
This rigidity of what originally was a folding framepack assembly, makes it very convenient for leveling off the manpack on un-level ground, allowing for keeping the antenna standing straight.

Here is how this manpack came together.....
