VE6AB Mobile Ops
HT To HF Cross Band Repeat
My mobile has the capability to cross band with a HT via the HF bands.
Although a bit quirky, overall it works reasonably well.
The procedure to set up my TM-D710, and my TS-480 to talk to each other is done this way.
.
The TM-D710 will receive signals I
transmit from my HT, when both transceivers are set with the same frequency.
The signal is then routed to the TS-480 transceiver and retransmitted on the frequency I have set on the TS-480 transceiver.
Likewise, signals received on the TS-480 transceiver are routed to the TM-D710 and retransmitted to my HT, allowing me to hear the HF band that I selected on the TS-480.
I needed to make up a cable that has a mini-DIN (6-pin) male connector at both ends, matching the mating mini-DIN connectors on both the TM-D710, and the TS-480.
For the repeater function to operate, the squelch levels of both transceivers (TS-480 and TM-D710) must be adjusted properly so that no background noise can be heard, because the transmission is controlled by monitoring the squelch status only.
The following is required to make cross band work
Select a transmit/receive VHF or UHF frequency on the TM-D710 transceiver.
Confirm PTT icon is visible on the crossband repeater frequency on the TM-D710 transceiver.
Select the same frequency for the HT.
Select a HF frequency on the TS-480 transceiver.
Adjust the squelch threshold level so that both the TS-480 transceiver and the TM-D710 transceiver mute.
Press [MENU/ F. LOCK] on the TS-480, then turn MULTI control to access Menu No. 57.
Select “on”.
When the TS-480 transceiver’s squelch opens, the TM-D710 transceiver retransmits the incoming audio signal on the VHF or UHF frequency at the same time.
When the TM-D710 transceiver’s squelch opens, the TS-480 transceiver retransmits the incoming audio signal on the HF frequency.
Access Menu Nos. 46 and 47 and press "/" to adjust the input/ output audio level.
To quit the TM-D710 repeater operation, disconnect the interface cable between transceivers and access Menu No. 57 on the TS-480 transceiver and select “OFF”.
