VE6AB Mobile Ops
The Hump
Called the Hump, my mobile is sitting at the top of this pass located at 6600 feet above sea level on forestry road 532, 22 kilometers west from where we turned off of highway 22 on to the 532.
For the record Forestry road 532 as you near the Hump is very rough with rocks sticking out of the roadway, no place for poor tires. The last several kilometers is a very steep climb to the pass, saw my transmission temperature rise to 102 degrees Celsius, normally sitting around 74 degrees Celsius.
My wife and I left Calgary earlier in the morning making the drive that included highway 2 south, highway 7 west, highway 22 south, forestry road 532 west, forestry trunk road 940 north, and highway 541 east before looping back to Calgary via Longview AB..
I had my mobile HF rig set up for RPR (robust packet radio), with my beacons being heard by various RPR stations located across the US gating my position to the Internet, and placing my mobile on Google maps showing the track that we laid over the course of about 6 hours that we were gone from home.
Earlier in the morning.....
