HF APRS Keeps You Connected
The SCS Tracker along with the Garmin Montana are proving to be a great combination as utilized with my TS-480HX and its dedicated 30 meter RRC (Really Rugged Coils) antenna.
The 30 meter RRC antenna mounted on the back deck of my Avalanche, is being used with my SCS Tracker DSP/TNC APRS Robust Packet station part of my radio stack.
The antenna has a dedicated 30 meter coil that I built expressly for the 30 meter digital modes.
The SCS Tracker being a bi-directional device is not only receiving GPS information from the Garmin Montana, but once the SCS Tracker hears a Robust Packet station via the TS-480HX, the Tracker then shares an APRS Datagram with the Garmin Montana, where the beaconing RPR APRS station is placed on the North American map visible on the screen of the Montana.
My RPR station VE6AB-15 is also being heard and gated through HF RP Gateways located across the world on the RPR 30 meter frequency of 10.147.30 MHz.
I am extremely pleased with how my new HF APRS Robust Packet station is performing with my mobile being heard and gated from coast to coast across the US on this day.
The map at aprs.fi shows me being gated by w3luz-7 at a distance of 3100 kilometers with only one hop required.
